Many firms, particularly major ones, employ Cisco equipment in their technological infrastructure, says Art Zeile, CEO of DHI Group, parent company of job portal Dice. Technologists who get Cisco certificates indicate that they have the expertise to work with these products, providing them an edge when vying for employment in a crowded industry.
Cisco provides certificates at four levels: entry, associate, professional and expert. Cisco originally provided an architect level, but that was abandoned. In addition to the basic levels, a specialist level is provided in numerous subjects. Most of the certifications fall under the field of either network infrastructure or software development.
